Summary: A lonely boy, lying on a rock. (It’s a bit poetical.)
The wind shifted over him once again. Earth, inhaling. He felt the gentle coolness wash across his body.
Lying on his back on gray rock. Staring up at the sky. Watching clouds, and spinning hawks enjoy the breeze’s turns.
Ben thought about his last private place. His spot to go. Collect his thoughts, his dreams, his hurts into himself. It was very much like this place. Open, quiet, alone.
Back there he’d had a few friends, though. He didn’t have to be alone, quite so much of the time. Here…he hadn’t had time or he didn’t fit in. He couldn’t tell yet. But, for now there was no one.
Since his grandfather died last March–made it through another winter but not the spring–it was only him and Gran.
The wind shifted once again. Earth, exhaled.
As birthdays went this wasn’t the worst and not the best. He’d waited for his father till he knew–this was not the day he would return.
Perhaps he couldn’t find this new cabin. (Best tracker in the force.) Maybe he’d forgotten, once again.
Ben knew he wanted to follow that great man. Track him all the way to…where? A future with the force. That much he planned. That much…
He’d try to be like him in every way. In every way but one.
If he had a son or daughter, he’d be there. He’d never leave them alone like this.
Not like this.
He lay, arms folded under his head and waited for the Earth to breath again.
An End
